Sela Celebrates the Graduates of the 2024 "Thread Roll" Hand Embroidery Course
Embroidery, one of the most refined fine arts, is a testament to creativity and requires exceptional skill.
On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Sela hosted a graduation ceremony for the trainees of the 2024 "Thread Roll" hand embroidery course, generously funded by the Adara Foundation, Indonesia. The event was held under the patronage of the Mayor of Sidon, Dr. Hazem Badieh, and attended by Mrs. Wafaa Shuaib, representing the mayor, along with members and directors of various associations and the families of the graduates.
The ceremony commenced with the Lebanese national anthem, followed by a speech from Mrs. Sultana Jumaa, Programmes and Projects Manager at Sela Association. She highlighted Sela’s achievements over the past nine years in fostering community development and empowering women through various initiatives, including the Khoyout Factory, which trains women in modern sewing and embroidery skills, and Themarouna Kitchen, which provides fresh daily meals, catering services, and culinary training. She expressed gratitude to the Adara Foundation for funding the embroidery course and for providing sewing machines and supplies after the course. She also extended her thanks to Dr. Hazem Badieh for his support in sponsoring the graduation ceremony.
Ms. Maryam Rahmayani, Director of the Adara Foundation, then delivered a speech in which she thanked Sela Association and the course trainers for their efforts in making the course successful. She emphasized that Sela and its trainers were invaluable partners in this initiative. Addressing the graduates, she commended their determination and ability to learn and teach, noting that this milestone marks a new beginning for each of them. With their skills, they will confidently and creatively carve new paths for their future. She underscored the importance of such training courses, thanked the attendees, and congratulated the graduates.
Speaking on behalf of the Mayor of Sidon, Ms. Wafaa Shuaib delivered an inspiring message that resonated with the trainees. She congratulated them on their achievements, encouraged them to continue developing their skills and pursuing their ambitions, and reaffirmed the importance of initiatives that empower women.
Representing the trainees, Safaa expressed their joy and pride in completing the course. She shared how they had mastered the art of hand embroidery step by step, gaining valuable theoretical and practical experience. On behalf of all trainees, she extended heartfelt thanks to the Adara Foundation and Sela Association for this enriching opportunity.
The ceremony concluded with a video presentation showcasing the embroidery course journey and celebrating the graduates’ accomplishments.
