A Training About The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)

Sela conducted training about The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) on Saturday, 5/12/2018.

The staff and volunteers of Sela attended the training.

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Hanafi, Director of the Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness), presented the training. First, he explained the essence and origin of human rights and defined the international human rights enforcement mechanisms' terminology, especially the UN human rights treaty system. The terminology definition list included a clear explanation about the difference between a declaration, an agreement and a protocol. He also introduced the obligations that the International human rights law lays upon signed countries.

The second segment included a detailed explanation about the origin, content and Arab countries' position towards The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), which was issued in 1979.

As for the 3rd part of the training, Dr. Al-Hanafi discussed the Lebanese government attitude towards The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Finally, he advised and encouraged the attendees to learn more about women's rights and search for all kinds of mechanisms, including laws, to defend their rights.

The training encouraged discussions and reviewed case studies.

In the end, Sela distributed certificates to the attendees.
