Humanitarian Brunch
Where people can share and listen to stories reflecting struggle and hope.
In celebration of International Women's Day and Mother's Day, Sela hosted a humanitarian brunch and invited the first ladies on Monday 18/3/2019 at Asal restaurant in Saida.
Mrs. Amal Hasan welcomed the attendees and explained the critical role of women in her family and society. Moreover, she struggles to advance and play different roles; no matter what she has been through, that woman is a single soul nailing every role/responsibility she takes. She added that Sela does not celebrate and honor women only on such occasions but works nonstop to support women. These occasions are only a few special days to add extra joy to women's hearts.
Sela would like to highlight two main fields through these occasions:
First, the series of challenges those women face frequently and focusing on the achievements that they have done over the years.
Second, Sela’s critical field of work targets women who stand on their own and face challenges solo; by supporting them, we can share their burdens.
Sela aims to encourage productive women to keep their performance by standing by their side to overcome the obstacles and providing support to empower and activate their role in community development.
Next, Sela screened a film showing its achievements starting from 2016 until January 2019.
Then, Ms. Sultana Jumaa, the Project Manager of Sela, briefed the audience on Sela's field visits and the tragedy they witnessed while visiting low-quality houses that lack warmth, safety, and happiness. Therefore, Sela decided to grant the vulnerable families their dreams through this humanitarian brunch and bring joy into their lives again. Some families need to renovate their houses; others need empowerment programs, training and psychosocial support. Sela presented another film that addresses the dreams of the vulnerable children and the weak houses that need renovation in Beirut and Saida.
Finally, Ms. Sarah Akoum, a Volunteer, recited a poem about women, and prizes were distributed to the attendees sponsored by associations and shopping malls.
